Meet the Cabin Kings:

Paul “Paulie” DiMeo and Pat “Tuffy” Bakaitis

Hey, guys! Paul DiMeo here. My partner at Cabin Kings, Pat “Tuffy” Bakaitis, is a savant with big machinery – but doesn’t know the first thing about computers, so he’s left this site up to me. Thanks for stopping by!

Tuffy and I love what we do. We get to let loose our inner “boys” on the regular – designing and building the ultimate man camps. Remember as kids when you’d gather all your friends and build that crazy fort in the living room or backyard? Yeah, it’s kind of like that… but with bigger tools and toys. Here’s some more info about us:

Best known as the carpenter with attitude on ABC Television’s two-time Emmy winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, DiMeo was a featured designer on all 9 seasons of the hit show.

DiMeo is originally from Media, Pennsylvania, one of five children. Raised in a Italian American family. He began his love affair with home construction at age 5, after his family’s home burned to the ground. “My father and I embarked upon our own extreme makeover to reconstruct the family home,” he explains.

After attending Point Park College in Pittsburgh, this Theatre Arts major began perfecting his skill of set building for the Pittsburgh Playhouse. A move to New York saw him running follow spots for Dance Theater of Harlem to building sets for the Yiddish Theater. He also pioneered the “Loft Living” project, working on the renovation of lofts and brownstones, and as master carpenter, renovated the Landmark Brownstone of Aaron Burr.

Additionally, Major League Baseball asked Paul in March of 2011 to be the lead designer and builder of the MLB Fan Cave in New York City. The Fan Cave is the first-of-its-kind immersive fan experience.

After 14 years in New York, DiMeo decided to move to Los Angeles, where he renovated the homes and businesses of Hollywood’s movers and shakers. His client list includes the Beverly Hills Ralph Lauren Polo store, the William Morris Agency, Glenn Close, David Niven Jr., Ann Archer, Marjorie Lord, Angelo DeSapio and — his most memorable client — George Hamilton.

With Extreme Make-Over: Home Edition DiMeo built homes in all 50 states. Best known for his theme rooms in over 151 homes, he can build anything and everything…and FAST: "Our record build was in Michigan-- 54 hours, 45 minutes. That's just crazy." A lover of the outdoors, building cabins with Cabin Kings is a dream for him. "The fact that you can do what you love to do out in the middle of nowhere outside is a dream I’ve had since I was a kid. Guess I still am."

Patrick “Tuffy” Bakaitis has owned the excavation company Hoosick Sand & Gravel in Hoosick Falls NY for over 35 years. He has participated in the building of hundreds (possibly thousands) of homes and structures. Tuffy is also considered a master pond builder. He’s lost track of how many ponds he’s built but knows it’s well over one-hundred.

Tuffy owns over 250 acres in the area where he as built 5 of his own cabins, along with 11 personal ponds. Tuffy lives on his property with a wife, two children, three excavators, five or six tractors, three bulldozers, 3 Bobcats, and several ATVS and snowmobiles…. If it’s got an engine, he probably owns at least two. Oh, yeah-- and he’s got a beautiful woodshop that he loves working in along with a herd of cows and two dogs.

Tuffy grew up on a farm where he learned the skills that he’s known for today, that of a master fabricator. Tuffy can fabricate anything from scraps. In fact, he doesn’t believe in dumpsters and throws nothing away, knowing someday he’ll likely need it for a repair or a future invention.

The hardest-working man in the dirt business, Tuffy hasn’t taken three days off in a row in over 13 years. He believes in building things for yourself, developing character through hard work, and incorporating bacon into every meal.
